Summer Reading List

Link free, as it would take too long.

Just as information sharing; I'm going to be doing visits to a local middle school (grades 7 to 8) and here's the list I'm using. While I'm not going to talk to each class about each book, I like to have a large selection so that I can do different books for different classes; have a wide range, for reading level and interest; plus some titles come from the school's summer reading list and some from the Garden State Teen Book Awards list.

Good luck with your school visits! I love doing school visits. Have fun and tell us how everything goes. :)

My favorites from your list:
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Di Camillo (sweet and squeaky clean - Annie and Sandy would agree)
Coraline by Neil Gaiman (his books rock, and this cat rules - anxious about the upcoming film)
One Of Those Hideous Books Where The Mother Dies by Sonya Sones (her best to date)
So B. It by Sarah Weeks (I thought it should have been in the running for the Newbery Award)
The Rag and Bone Shop by Robert Cormier (One of THE best last sentences of ANY novel)
The Steps by Rachel Cohn (Have you read the sequel yet? It is just as cute.)
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (*bows to Westerfeld*)

The visits were this morning and they were great! I just didn't have enough time to talk about as many books as I would have liked. There were between 160 and 180 kids; I was there with 2 other librarians, because it's a regional school so has kids from our 3 towns; and there was so much to talk about (summer volunteering, teen advisory board, etc.)

My favorite part was when one of the girls came up at the end, announced she'd already read everything on the list, so we started talking about some of the new-new books.

Abarat is great; I have to read the sequel.

And anything Neil Gaiman does is amazing.
